Jonathan Payne is a senior researcher with the ESRC’s research centre on Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance (SKOPE), and is based at Cardiff University’s School of Social Sciences. He has published widely on a range of topics including: the political economy of skill; the changing meaning of ‘skill’ and its implications; work design and the utilisation of skill; and vocational education and training (VET) policy in the UK and Scandinavia. He is currently engaged in an international research project on work organisation and skill usage looking specifically at vocational lecturers, fitness instructors and cafeteria workers across Norway, France and the UK.
